Survival Guide from Survivors.com
In today's world we live with many comforts and conveniences - the temperatures in our homes and workplace are electronically controlled. Our food is stored and maintained at precisely the right temperature. Appliances and cooking equipment can come to life with the simple touch of a button. Lifesaving medication is readily available. Transportation is reliable, fuel and food are plentiful, and communication is simple - even children can call or text each other with one finger, on their own personal phones. Computers make it very easy to share photos and documents all over the world. Public safety personnel are readily available and can be dispatched on a moment's notice. Life is easy.
But what if that changed? What if some sort of catastrophic event caused local, regional, or even national power outages, occurred? Everything would change in a moment. Without refrigeration, food would quickly spoil. Fuel would be scarce, stores would sell out quickly of lifesaving supplies, transportation supply chains would be disrupted, and communications would cease. Basic sanitation would break down. Without food and supplies, panic would cause chaos, lawlessness, and riots.
Is this possible? Of course it is. We have already seen these things occur in local regions that have been hard-hit by natural disasters. The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and Sandy provide examples of what can happen when disaster strikes. In both cases, loss of electricity, shelter, food, and other basic needs created a widespread crisis. And those disasters were both limited to a small geographic area - what if a similar disaster occurred which was regional or even national in nature?
It is up to each individual and family to prepare for their own survival, in the event of a catastrophic event. Food, water, public safety, communication, sanitation, shelter, and other basic necessities cannot be relied upon. Each individual will have to prepare for his/her own needs, and those of their family and friends. How can one undertake a challenge such as this? Those are the questions that this website will attempt to answer. There are many facets. We will attempt to address them all. Please see the list of topics below, or the Table of Contents Page for more information.
